Dr. Durand’s procedures prioritize structural restoration over simple skin-tightening, utilizing advanced deep plane ligament release techniques. By addressing facial anatomy at a deeper level, he achieves non-pulled results that look truly natural. Every procedure at Enso is also completely customized, with a unique surgical plan that meets every patient’s unique goals.
Benefits of a Deep Plane Facelift
The deep plane facelift is considered to be one of the most advanced techniques for achieving natural-looking rejuvenation. The procedure results in a number of benefits:
- Natural appearance: By lifting the muscle and skin together, you avoid the "pulled" or "tight" look often associated with older facelift techniques. The ultimate goal is to create a natural looking result that matches the unique anatomy of your face.
- Correction of the mid-face and jawline: A deep plane facelift is especially effective at lifting the cheeks and smoothing the nasolabial folds (the lines from the nose to the mouth), creating a crisp, youthful jawline.
- Long-lasting results: Because the lift happens beneath your skin, the results of a deep plane facelift typically last longer than other facelift techniques.
- Discrete scarring: A deep plane facelift puts less tension on your skin during the healing process, so incisions typically heal more discreetly.
- Rested, vibrant result: Beyond softening wrinkles, a deep plane facelift addresses the underlying "heaviness" that can make you look tired, restoring a refreshed and approachable expression.
When getting a facelift, you’ll also have the option to combine the surgery with other procedures, such as eyelid surgery, a neck lift, or fat grafting, for even more comprehensive results.
What to Expect With a Deep Plane Facelift
Procedure
A deep plane facelift is an outpatient procedure that typically takes 3 to 5 hours. Unlike older techniques that just pull the skin, Dr. Durand carefully goes below the SMAS (superficial muscular aponeurotic system) layer to lift the muscle, fat pads, and skin as one unit. This allows for a more significant lift of the cheeks and jawline without the tension that causes a surgical or “tight” look. Small incisions are usually made along the hairline and natural contours of your ears, leaving you with minimal scarring.
Recovery
Recovery is typically much faster than patients expect. Stitches are removed at 1 week, and a chin strap is used to settle the results for the first 10-15 days. Most patients feel confident returning to work and social activities after about 1 to 2 weeks when bruising and swelling significantly improves. From there, we recommend waiting at least 4 weeks before starting strenuous activities and exercise.
For those patients who are public figures, or who plan to be photographed, the 4-5 week mark is typically where they feel comfortable making more public appearances. Dr. Durand will always provide you with detailed aftercare instructions to support proper healing and optimal results.
Results
There are two factors that differentiate a deep plane facelift from a classic facelift: 1.) subtlety and 2.) longevity. While you’ll immediately notice a crisper jawline, more youthful cheek volume, and a smoother neck, you’ll still look like you. And because we’re repositioning the foundation of your face, rather than just tightening the surface, results can last up to 10 to 15 years. Beyond this, other factors that can affect longevity of results include age, skin quality, and lifestyle.
Dr. Durand’s Signature MVLift® Facelift
The MVLift® represents an exciting change from traditional techniques, offering a modern, multi-vector approach to facial rejuvenation. Standard procedures often pull the skin in a single direction, leading to a tight or artificial look. By simultaneously lifting the face in multiple vectors, Dr. Durand’s MVLift® ️is able to address both deep and superficial structures as a cohesive whole.
This fusion of innovation and artistry does more than just enhance your profile. It’s designed for a smoother patient experience and often results in minimal bruising and an accelerated recovery.
The result is restored harmony to the mid and lower-face, a crisp jawline, and improved facial balance while preserving your natural movement and expression. The outcome will be both natural and impactful, a transformation that’s about more than just looking younger.

Who is a Good Candidate for a Deep Plane Facelift?
While there is no perfect age for a facelift, the deep plane technique is ideal for individuals who are noticing structural changes that surface-level treatments (like Botox or filler) can no longer address. This is typically from the 40s to 60s. You may be a great candidate if you have:
- Significant jawline sagging: If your jawline has softened into jowls, the deep plane technique offers the structural lift needed to restore definition.
- Mid-face volume loss: This procedure is helpful for those who feel their cheeks have fallen, leading to deep nasolabial folds (smile lines) or a hollowed appearance under the eyes.
- A tired expression: A deep plane facelift repositions the underlying muscles to restore a naturally vibrant and rested look.
- A desire for long-term results: Candidates for this procedure are often looking for a long-lasting solution rather than the temporary maintenance of fillers or mini lifts.
Good overall health and expectations: As with any surgery, the best candidates are non-smokers in good general health. We also encourage patients to have realistic expectations for the procedure.
