What is a Neck Lift?
A neck lift is a surgical procedure intended to improve jawline and neck contour by addressing loose skin, excess fat, and changes in the platysma muscle (the muscle that covers the front of the neck). While it can be performed alone, it’s often combined with a facelift, such as Dr. Durand’s signature MVLift® procedure, or other facial procedures for a more comprehensive result.
There are two main components to a neck lift:
Cervicoplasty: This removes any excess, sagging skin to create a smoother, more refined neck and jawline contour.

These are typically placed directly below the chin or tucked along the natural folds in front of the ear lobes, looping behind the ears and into the hairline. Depending on your goals, the procedure may include Liposuction to remove fat deposits before the contouring begins. If so, this is performed before the neck lift.
During the cervicoplasty phase, any sagging or redundant skin is carefully trimmed and lifted to create a smoother profile. If muscle tightening is required, a platysmaplasty is performed to draw together the loose muscles responsible for prominent vertical bands. Once the underlying structure is expertly refined, the incisions are closed using sutures or medical glue.

Neck Lift Recovery

While some discomfort is natural, medication is prescribed to ensure you remain comfortable throughout this initial phase.
As your body begins to heal, your progress is closely monitored. Any bandages covering the incisions are typically removed after a few days, and sutures are usually taken out within seven to 10 days of the procedure. While swelling and bruising are common, these effects generally subside within the first 10 days.
Most patients feel ready to return to work and resume their normal daily activities within 2 weeks. While you can move about comfortably at this stage, it’s important to refrain from more strenuous activities or heavy lifting for 4 to 6 weeks.
