Dr. Dev’s journey began in childhood, accompanying his father—a retired cardiologist and yoga instructor—on quiet weekend rounds through the Intensive Care Unit and Cardiac Care Unit. While other children spent weekends elsewhere, he observed conversations between physician and patient, witnessed vulnerability, and learned early that medicine was not only about knowledge, but about presence, responsibility, and trust.

As a teenager in Mumbai, he carried that awareness into action—volunteering in community medical camps and witnessing firsthand how socioeconomic barriers can limit access to care. Those experiences shaped a deep internal conviction: that medicine, when practiced thoughtfully, has the power to restore dignity as much as health.

At sixteen, his understanding of that responsibility became personal. Following a traumatic motor vehicle accident in Mumbai, Dr. Dev became a patient himself. Under the care of renowned plastic surgeon Dr. Narendra Pandya, his severely injured eye was reconstructed through meticulous surgical care. The experience was transformative.

In recovery, he saw clearly what many patients feel but struggle to articulate: that the balance between form and function is not cosmetic—it is identity, confidence, and quality of life. Without that reconstruction, both would have been profoundly altered. That moment did not simply influence his career choice—it defined it.

It is why he listens longer. Plans more carefully. Operates with humility. And approaches every patient not only as a surgeon, but as someone who understands the vulnerability of being on the other side of the operating room.

Service has never been an accessory to Dr. Dev’s career—it has been its foundation.

Building on the volunteer work of his youth, he has remained committed to extending surgical care beyond private practice. His dedication to service has taken him across borders, cultures, and healthcare systems—always with the same purpose: to offer skill where it is most needed and to learn from the communities he serves.

While at Temple University, Dr. Dev was awarded two competitive scholarships supporting his participation in a Microsurgery Cancer Reconstruction mission organized by Fox Chase Cancer Center. Through this program, he traveled to Nepal, where he helped care for patients undergoing complex microsurgical breast and facial reconstruction following advanced-stage cancers. He also worked alongside local clinicians, contributing to education and skill-sharing that would continue long after the mission concluded.

These experiences shaped not only his technical growth, but his perspective on what it means to practice medicine with purpose.
